Haffner’s is pleased to support Bread & Roses, a soup kitchen in the heart of Lawrence, MA. Founded in 1980, their primary purpose is to ease hunger in the community by providing warm, nutritious meals to 120-150 individuals five nights per week (that’s over 50,000 meals each year)!
In late fall 2019, Esperanza Academy students were asked by Haffner’s to find beauty in their local surroundings and then transform it into a design for an oil truck. Congratulations to student winners: J’nyla, Jordyn, Michelle and Briany!
“We are so proud to have partnered with this amazing school and show the beauty of the Lawrence community on one of our trucks,” said Jeff Black, Owner & COO, Haffner’s.
Each year, Haffner’s is a proud sponsor and participant of the New Ipswich Congregational Church Children’s Fair. Not only do we provide the propane to power the event, but we also reward one lucky winner 100 gallons of home heating fuel!
For two decades, Haffner’s has partnered and fundraised with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The money raised each year sends kids to MDA Summer Camp and funds groundbreaking research efforts and best-in-class care for kids and adults living with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related neuromuscular diseases.
Each member of the Haffner’s team proudly participates in the fundraising efforts every March.
Today Haffner’s is a regional leader in Heating Oil, Propane, Burner and AC Service to nearly 50,000 customers while offering consumers the opportunity to fill up and wash their vehicles at one of our many Haffner’s branded gas stations and car washes.
Haffner’s Service Stations Inc. was founded in 1925 by John (aka Jack) and Emma Haffner. They began with one small “filling station” at 69 Parker Street in Lawrence.
Jack and Emma’s only child, Louise, received both a burner-service technician license and a C1 tractor-trailer license, the first woman in the state to do so. She earned a degree in Chemical Engineering (MIT) with a focus on Petroleum Distilling and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Boston University). She began operating and growing her family business to include oil and kerosene home delivery.
Jack, Emma, Louise and Emile Fournier (Louise’s husband) continued to grow the fuel oil end of the business up until Jack’s passing. It was at this time that Louise’s oldest son, E. Haffner Fournier a.k.a. “Haff,” entered the business full time. Up until then, Haff had worked on a part-time basis for the company. He had serious plans for growing the business.
Over the next 40 years, Haff built gas stations and car washes in North Andover, Tewksbury, Methuen, and Haverhill, MA; Salem, Plaistow and Hudson, NH.

The fuel delivery side of the business expanded into propane home delivery in 2006.
Haff passed away in 2009. After his passing, his wife, Joanne Fournier, and son, David, took over the business to continue the family legacy.
A second office was added in Greenville, NH to give Haffner’s the ability to reach the Monadnock Region.
Haffner’s was sold to the Black Family, owners and operators of Energy North Group.
Haffner’s continues to expand. Its footprint grew into mid-western Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, the New Hampshire seacoast and southern Maine with the acquisitions of: Advantage Fuel/Jenkins Fuels, Ayer Oil, Hanscom Fuel and Victory Fuel.
