More than 10,000 households and businesses were negatively affected by the gas pipeline surge that struck Andover, Lawrence and North Andover in September. Immediately following the crisis, Haffner’s responded to their community in a big way.

“After the emergency occurred, our team went into overdrive,” said Pat O’Connell, Executive Vice President. “From manpower and gasoline to providing basic essentials, we did everything we could to assist in the recovery efforts. It was the least we could do.”

Haffner’s started raising money as soon as they could for the relief fund. First, they redirected all customers from the Haffner’s website to the disaster relief fund donation page. The weekend after the crisis, Haffner’s hosted a car wash fundraiser where $8 from each car wash was donated. Next, they created donation jars to be placed at all gas stations. Finally, Merrimack Valley Strong t-shirts were created and $10 from every shirt sold was donated to the cause.

“Community is our top priority,” said Jeff Black, Owner & COO. “When our neighbors need us, we are always here to help. $20,000 was raised by our customers and Haffner’s will match $20,000 bringing the combined total to $40,000.”
